“NJ at the STEM front” 2020 Seminar Series
The NJ Academy of Science (NJAS) was founded in 1954, is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is a member of the National Association of Academies of Science. The NJ Academy of Science (NJAS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and promote the advancement of STEM-related fields among the NJ scientific community. The organization is 100% funded by its membership dues, publications, fundraisers, and private donations.
The goal of “NJ at the STEM front” seminar series is to engage, inspire, and educate the NJ Community about important scientific topics that are influencing NJ and our world. Most importantly we would like to inspire the youth, undergraduate and graduate students to pursue STEM degrees and careers and ultimately advance NJAS mission and vision.
3 main Objectives:
● Increasing awareness of STEM fields and careers
● Increasing participants’ beliefs about their ability to succeed in STEM
● Increasing participants’ sense of STEM identity
These objectives are accomplished through STEM networking opportunities by developing interactions with NJ residents, political leaders, science professionals, faculty and students.
STEM professionals will present highlights on their careers and hot topics in science, technology, engineering and math with a Q&A session following. Geared for all audiences. Registration is required. All seminars are FREE for NJAS members. Students can attend for free with a student ID. A nominal donation of $5 for the general public.
NJAS has planned various seminars for 2020. The location for each seminar is the NJ Center for Science, Technology & Mathematics – Kean University, 1075 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083 .
